We are pleased to invite you to attend our next English event which will take place on this FRIDAY evening the 15th of June at the GIL.
Rabbi Gilad Kariv, President and CEO of the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism (IMPJ) who will be giving a talk entitled:
”From Basel to Jerusalem- Our Zionist Journey to Build Progressive Liberal Judaism in the Promised Land.”
Join us on this Friday evening following the Shabbat service (18h30) for a pot luck Dinner Buffet for this unique opportunity.
Rabbi Gilad Kariv is the President and CEO of the IMPJ for the last 10 years and has spearheaded liberal Judaism in Israel. During his tenure, the number of Liberal congregations have doubled. Over 50 congregations. /// 50 Liberal Rabbis /// thousands of members up-and-down Israel.
Though Israel’s religious parties, members of the ruling coalition, have hijacked public policy, imposing the rigid application of their interpretation of the Hala’Ha, Liberal Judaism has never been more present in the everyday lives of Israelis.
Gilad “moves mountains” being the most prolific agent for change; insisting on the acceptance of pluralism; using the legal system to challenge the government’s definition of a “level playing field”. As a result, and thanks to his pioneering victory in the Israeli Supreme Court, Liberal Rabbis are now salaried as other rabbis. This is but the tip of the iceberg .., the visible show of progress!
Rabbi KARIV accepted the invitation of Alexander Dembitz to be our guest this Kabbalat Shabbat. His address will be in English.
Please join this exceptional opportunity to listen to the architect of pluralistic, progressive, Liberal Judaism in Israel.
